Coca Cola: Hail the Queen of Connectivity

The global market has changed the way the world does business. We do not seek localized markets, though we strive to conquer these in an effort to conquer the whole. We do not seek specific loyalties, though we aspire to mobilize these and therefore sing very specific siren songs. We do not seek mere consolidation, though it is what we strive for ultimately, by acquiring solidarity in variety.

The world is a singular globe swiftly tilting in space, and yet it is one that is deeply divided. Water divides us. Land divides us. Weather and resources divide us. And ultimately our handling of these divisions defines us, cloaks us in a cultural identity, which we (generally) gladly adhere to. Cultures across the globe, distinct from our own, call to us. Beckon us to experience the unknown, to don a cloak of a different colour.

And yet, there are places on planet earth that deliberately and precisely redefine their internal configurations so as to accommodate cross-cultural interaction. So as to situate within the boundaries of their own shores, the plethora of differences that prevail beyond those shores.

So as to cultivate a quilt like nation with a myriad of patterns encompassed upon a single piece of strong, supple cloth. The colours more vibrant for their unlikely juxtaposition. The quilt beautified as a result.

And yet, the quilt remains the singular source of unity throughout the myriad. It is the quilt that enables the distinctions to merge into the whole. Otherwise, they would be little more than a hodge-podge of accumulation. It is the quilt that is the definitive whole which supports the multitude of squares within. It is the quilt that provides the ultimate refuge to the colours that define it. The quilt may be bereft without them, but it is the quilt that houses them. That grants them the means to abide and thrive.

You see, that is the promise of America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. The land of opportunity. It is a quilt that retains within itself cultures and colours from far and wide. It is the strong but supple thread that weaves together an unseemly amalgamation of people. It is a display of American strength that it binds together the divorced and disparate. The American discourse which resounds across all the rivers that converge at its shores.

Hence, the American national anthem in the background, in numerous languages. Hence, the depiction of various races and religions, sponsored as they are into coexistence by the American banner beneath which they reside. Hence the peace and prosperity that demonstrably thrives within the American landscape as diverse cultures coincide within the bounds of a specific uniform commerce. And within the parameters of which specific commerce do these diverse cultures reside? Which specific commerce is the banner beneath which the American banner appears to thrive? Which specific commerce engages a wide scope of population, even as it pays homage to a single one? You got it. Coca Cola—thy name is unity in diversity. Thou art an authority on combining and coalescing cultures and countries–

Do you see the message then? Is it not clear as day? Sung perhaps not so subtly, but oh so sweetly. That Madame Coca Cola is the Queen of all Quilts. Formidable in its pervasive but precise economic bid. Fantastic in its flavour. Fabulous in its approach. Hail the Queen. Coca Cola. The sweet scent of success ensconced in a radiant red.
